KWAMHLANGA- On February 11, 2019 Cell C has reached out to a young lady in KwaMhlanga, KwaNdebele in Mpumalanga, who was in desperate need of aid.
Thirteen-year-old Thobile Sibiya, who was born unable to use her legs, was in need of a wheelchair, as the one she has been using up until now was too small. Thobile’s family had battled with this situation – her grandmother struggled with pushing her around in the small chair – and reached out to the local hospitals but did not receive any help.
After her plight came to the attention of Cell C Escalations Department employee, Sidwell Mokwena, he contacted Cell C’s CSI Department who has a fund named Cell C Kindness and requested assistance to secure Thobile a brand new wheelchair.
Cell C has donated a new wheelchair to Thobile and also built a ramp to her house, to enable her to move around a lot easier. Cell C’s Escalations Department delivered both the wheelchair and ramp to Thobile’s house in KwaMhlanga on Saturday, February 9th.
“We’re hoping these donations make a huge difference in Thobile’s life, which has been fraught with challenges since she was born,” says Suzette van der Merwe, Cell C’s Managing Executive for Corporate Social Investment.
“We thank Sidwell for bringing Thobile’s situation to light and allowing us to help both her and her family,” she says.
