“It would be a waste of 12 years”

As final exams are set to commence on the 23rd of this month, the Department of Education Maviljan Circuit held its annual Matric Motivation Function for the 2018 matriculants from eight schools in Bushbuckridge on Friday the 12th of October 2018 at the Mapulaneng Multipurpose Centre.

“It would be a waste of 12 precious years!” the circuit manager, C.L Mapaila said to the learners, “It would be a waste of 12 (or more) years to be at school and still don’t have anything to show off. It will be a disappointment to yourself, your family, your school and the whole country if you don’t make it.”

According to the circuit manager, the gathering was to enlighten pupils about their potential, but also to remind them that they have their circuit’s support throughout.

Also present were university graduates from within the circuit in their graduation robes. “It is not because we want to boast that we are wearing graduation gowns here today, we want to show you that it is possible even in Bushbuckridge. You are very privileged today; therefore you have no reason not to make it. You will have no one else to blame for failing but yourselves. You have the whole world in your hands”, the circuit manager added.

TV and radio personality and BA: Journalism graduate Mpumi Mpethe said to the learners; “Doors of opportunities will open in life, what you have to do is prepare yourself and be ready for anything. Be brave and stand for what you want, therefore you will be able to achieve.”

Ntebaleng Mokoena, former learner of Bushbuckridge High School and now working for the University of South Africa (UNISA) also added her words of encouragement as a guest speaker. “You have to be your own cheerleader, think positively all the time, persevere, persist, and lastly; set goals for yourself,” she said.

Speaking to Bushbuckridge News Phetolo Molobela, a grade 12 learner at Bushbuckridge High School said “I feel proud to have been part of today’s motivation, and I believe that everyone here today will leave with the desire to make it. I thankful for Ntebaleng’s words when she said that we have to be our own cheerleaders because other people may try to discourage us, but then you cannot discourage yourself, especially when you know what you want in life.” She concluded.
